Linda Chambers, 63, of Pierre, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at Isburg Funeral Chapel followed by prayer service at 7 p.m. Services are at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, at First Methodist in Pierre, with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Linda June was born June 17, 1946, in Basset, Neb., to James T. and Dora (Campbell) Johnson. Linda attended grade school in Keya Paha County, Neb., and graduated from Burke High School with the class of 1964. Upon graduating from high school, she worked one year as a nurse’s aide in the Burke Memorial Hospital.

Linda married Orval Chambers in Winner in 1965, and was divorced in 1970. Daughter, Lori Ann, was born in 1966.

Linda and her daughter, Lori, moved to Pierre in 1969 and Linda worked in various cafes and at Buhl’s Laundry. In 1975, she began working as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Healthcare for 10 years then transferred to the laundry department were she continued to work for 20 years until ill health forced her to retire in 2005.

Linda took much pride in raising her only daughter and was blessed with two grandsons whom she loved dearly. Linda loved helping people and will leave many friends and family to cherish her memory.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Lori (Keith) Briggs; two grandsons, Riley James and Wyatt Keith; sister, Wanda Johnson, of North Platte, Neb; three nieces; and a host of close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Johnson; an infant brother; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre has been placed in care of the arrangements.
