PIERRE — Residents may begin circulating election petitions in less than a month.

But already, some office holders have indicated they’ll be running again.

On June 8, one Pierre City Commission seat, three Hughes County Commission seats and two Pierre School Board seats will be put to a vote.

In addition, the Hughes County Sheriff Mike Leidholt will be running again as will Shellie Baumgart, county auditor.

City Commissioner Jeanne Goodman will be finishing the term originally begun by Jesse Naze who left the seat.

Goodman said she has yet to decide whether to run.

Of the three county commission seats, one is being vacated as Mark Venner is running for state House of Representatives from District 24.

Commissioner Bill Abernathy and commission chairman Jim Hardwick said they intend to run again.

County petitions can be picked up at the county courthouse and more information about elections, including forms, can be found online at www.sdsos.gov.

On the school board side, Deanne Booth, school board president, and Norm Lingle, board vice president, are up for re-election.

Booth said she plans to run again. Lingle could not be reached for comment.

The deadline to file petitions is March 30. School board forms can be picked up at the administrative building and those for city commission can be found at city hall.
