Bipartisan disagreement

Rep. Jim Bolin, R-Canton, came up to me a little while ago with an interesting fact.
Yesterday's vote on HB1002, which would allow liquor sales on Sundays, Memorial Day and Christmas, failed by the razor-sharp margin of 35-34 in the House.
But Bolin points out that the split went a lot farther than that.
Among Republicans, 23 lawmakers voted against it and 23 lawmakers voted for it. That put the bill in the hands of the Democrats... who also split. Twelve Democrats voted against the bill. Eleven Democrats voted for it. One Democrat, Rep. Ed Iron Cloud, was missing, leaving the bill two votes short of the 36 needed for passage.
The bill will be reconsidered.
